ROSE TREE DAY NURSERY UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF NUTRITION FOR YOUR CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT
Rose Tree Day Nursery & Nutrition
At Rose Tree Day Nursery, we pride ourselves on providing food for the children which are nutritious and enjoyable for them. All of our food is freshly prepared and cooked on-site by a dedicated member of staff who is fully trained in food hygiene. Our kitchen area can be viewed from the coat pegs area, we feel that it is important to make our kitchen as integrated as possible into the nursery as the kitchen is the heart of the home, we want the children to have a love for their food at nursery as they do at home.
In the morning the children will receive breakfast, this will consist of cereals, fruits and toast; all of which will be offered.
For lunchtime the meals offered will be on a 2-week rotation, the menus will be pinned to the noticeboard and available to be viewed on our website. If there is a meal that your child does not like, let us know and we will provide an alternative.
The children will be given an afternoon tea which may consist of things like cheese, crackers, fruit, vegetables, sandwiches, biscuits.
All of our food is carefully planned with the Early Stage Foundation stage 3.47 in mind to provide healthy, balanced and nutritious meals taking special dietary needs, preferences and allergies or special health requirements into account.
Recommendations from Public Health England are that preschool children include potatoes, bread, rice, pasta and starchy carbohydrates, fruit and vegetables, beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins, dairy and alternatives.
In accordance with the Early Years Framework stage guidance and Public Health recommendations, we include these essential nutrients in our menu as well as facilitating physical activity.
Example menus that include a standard diet, vegetarian, allergen & tomato free and also vegetarian allergen & tomato free

Breastfeeding
It is recommended that babies are exclusively breastfed for their first 6 months. We support breastfeeding and formula feeding offering facilities to apply both. We have a specific sterilised storage box within our fridge that we can store breastmilk. Breastmilk must be supplied each morning to the nursery and be fully labelled with the child’s name and date of birth, the date the milk was expressed and mothers name. The milk will be checked by two staff and documentation of this will be completed every time breast milk is used. We understand how precious breastmilk is and will treat it carefully for you and your baby.
Formula Fed
National guidance will be applied when sterilising equipment and preparing formula. Instructions on your baby’s formula will be adhered to. All feeds will be documented and provided to you at the end of each session at nursery.
